To tell if the Bluetooth device is paring as phone and/or media, go into phone settings, Bluetooth settings, There should be a list of paired devices. If not, you need to pair the Bluetooth device to the phone.
One you have the device in the list, there should be a settings icon to the right of the device name. Click the icon. There should be check boxes that show if the device is paired as a "phone" or as "media" or both.
