Motorola Triumph (Froyo): notifications won't go to speaker

Hi,
I have a headset plugged in to my Motorola Triumph, still running the Froyo it came with. When I turn "Notifications to Speaker" ON in SoundAbout, phone calls still ring into the headset. Any ideas about how to get the "Notifications Speaker" function to work for me? I have two audio apps installed, PowerAmp and TapeMachine (in case they might be part of the problem).
