S3 speakerphone issue

When I make a call, my S3 switches back and forth between regular call audio output (through the front of the phone) and speakerphone. It does this immediately after connecting the call and lasts 3-4 seconds. It also happens occasionally during the call and lasts for the same interval. It's so bad that I usually have to either wait to acknowledge the other person when starting a call or ask them to repeat themselves during the call. I've also had this happen when using a Bluetooth earpiece, though it doesn't seem to be quite as bad.

I have also noticed that this does not happen while using a BT earpiece when the S3 is connected in my car using the headphone jack (routing media audio through the car speakers) and USB charging cable.

What could be causing this? I am using the Pro version, BTW.

It may be due to some things that I have fixed recently. Can you try the latest Beta version that I uploaded in the Beta list here?

That seems to have done the trick! I haven't used my BT earpiece outside of the car yet to be able to test that, but so far, so good.

There are still some issues with BT phone calls on the S4 that I am working on right now.

Fyi, I am also having trouble keeping the speaker phone working throughout a call if I decide to activate it manually from the in-call screen. It switches on when I request it, but switches back off on its own after a couple of minutes. I then have to manually tap the speakerphone button on and off a few times before it finally comes back on, but the cycle will start over again.

Speakerphone is still having the same problem. Also, BT earpiece now isn't working at all. It is still paired, and showing to be activated on the in-call screen, but no sound is coming through.

Going to install the first version you mentioned to see if the BT issue is the same.

After reverting to 2.5.6.8, BT functionality is back. Speakerphone remains the same.

OK, I put a newer Beta version out there. One thing to remember, is that on a lot of newer phones, the manufacturer phone application may behave differently. A lot of them will try to use the headset, if it is plugged in, regardless of SoundAbout trying to force otherwise. The only way around this is to answer the phone call with the Bluetooth headset "answer" button, or the car's "answer" button.

You phone may be killing the SoundAbout service, so you may have to change the SoundAbout Service to "ON - Foreground" if it seems to be skipping or the speaker keeps going off.

I updated to the latest beta. I attempted to change to ON-Foreground. In this situation, the speakerphone function was still behaving with the same problems. However, after going back to ON-AutoRestart, the speakerphone is working properly. But now the BT functionality is gone again.

I understand what you're saying about using the BT answer button to connect calls with the earpiece, and i was actually doing that already when i would be receiving a call. But that doesn't help me when I'm the one initiating the phone call. I can't use the BT button to initiate a phone call unless it is to redial the last number called.

Let me revise that last response.  The BT functionality was fine even when plugged into my car stereo via the headphone jack when using 2.5.6.8.  So receiving our making calls via BT isn't really an issue at this point when it is working properly through 2.5.6.8.  The only remaining problem is the inability to use the speakerphone.  That happens when BT is turned off completely.
