Nexus 4 - release 4.4.2 Audio not working
I can only hear the external speakers and the microphone has an echo when I use them.
Any suggestion? How can I troubleshoot where is my audio diverted and remove that setting? is there any api for that or tool ?
1) I reset the device to factory settings
2) Installed soundabout free, the last beta ( 31/12)
3) tried different soundabout settings : disabled wired headset detection, bluetooth
Is there any way to set the nexus 4 to normal good settings?
In the last week the only different things I did previously to the issue were:
- try to use bluetooth
- installed on my pc a chrome extension allcast to use the phone as a remote to drive the media stream to a chromecast device to the tv.
Suggestion?

Re: Nexus 4 - release 4.4.2 Audio not working
Just to be sure:
1) Did this start happening after upgrading to Android 4.2.2?
2) Did you already have SoundAbout or install it to try and fix the issue?
3) Have you tried removing the AllCast app?
4) Have you seen this article:

Re: Nexus 4 - release 4.4.2 Audio not working
Hi, thanks for your reply.
1) It started happening after a while ( 2 weeks after , I think ) I upgraded to 4.4.2
2) Installed to try and fix the issue, not before
3) reset the allcast app and all the others . the only ones now are google play services and soundabout
4) yes, I read that and this was I installed the app
Question: is there any way to debug where the audio is diverted and ? I f I install the android sdk , is there any useful tool?
Thanks

Is the issue that all audio only goes to the phone speaker and not to a wired headset or Bluetooth?
Is this for phone call audio, media audio or both?
Are you testing with a music player or ringtones...etc?
Downgrading:
If you are rooted and have a recovery installed, then backing up the image and then trying to downgrade might tell you if the issue is 4.2.2 related. With the backup image, you can always get back to your current state in a few minutes.
Debugging:
That doesn't always work as you might see Audio routing data in the debug text, but if the originating app is not printing to the debugger, you won't know which app caused the audio to change.
Re: Nexus 4 - release 4.4.2 Audio not working
I just tried to use the phone for calls and the audio is not going to the build-in earpiece. If I use wired headset , I can hear but the audio is not good ( perhaps due to the poor quaility of the headset)
I can downgrade, but first I should unlock with wugfresh Nexus root toolkit. Can Google support send me an ota for downgrade the device ?

If you have recovery flashed and can backup, then head over to XDA Developers. They will have various ROMs to try out. You may even find a ROM that is not a downgrade that works!

Re: Nexus 4 - release 4.4.2 Audio not working
"If nothing is plugged into the phone and no Bluetooth is connected them "Phone call audio" set to "Let app decide" will route to the Earpiece. Setting "Phone call audio" to Earpiece is used when you have a Bluetooth device or wired headset connected and want to force the phone to use the Earpiece.
If the Earpiece is malfunctioning these settings can't get it to work."
I tried these settings and it didn't work
"To see if the Earpiece is broken, you could try playing music through the earpiece. You can play music, then while playing, go into SoundAbout and change the "media audio" setting to earpiece. Either turn up the volume or put your ear to the earpiece and see if you hear music. If not, then something my be wrong with the hardware."
I did that and I didn't hear music at all, then something is wrong with the hardware. Is there any other way to test it?
Thanks

Not that I know of. Maybe a store that Verizon/AT&T/Sprint or another store may have a way to hook it up and test.
The only other thing I can think of is the headset jack hole "Thinks" a headset is plugged in. That is covered in this thread:
