Nexus S sound not working

My Samsung Google Nexus S has no sound through the speaker. Does any one know a fix for this.

Will this app be able to help and if yes then how ?

The phone may "think" a headset is plugged in when it is not.  You can have the app ignore the headset detection signals.

The Wired Headset settings are now in a section called "Wired Headset behavior...".   Click on that to see the Wired Headset settings.   Un-check the "Wired Headset detection" setting and reboot the phone.

I have installed the beta version. Unchecked the Wired Headset detection setting and rebooted the phone but sadly still the sound has not come back.

You may have a more serious hardware issue with the speaker or circuit board.

Well for some reason or the other the sound has come back. The headphone was plugged in this time and strangely the wired headset detection was checked when the speaker started working again.

have you tried cleaning out the jack hole with air, a toothpick or pipe cleaner?

No I haven't. I don't really know how to do that.

If you Google it, there are plenty of people that have had the headset jack cause this issue.  Some just had lint that needed to be cleaned out.  Others, like me didn't and use the app to get around the issue.

The sound has gone again so could you tell me how exactly I should clean the jack, I don't want to end up damaging it.

First you can check if any lint is in there using a wood toothpick.  I have heard of others using a small pipe cleaner dipped in rubbing alcohol.
