updates erasing all settings

The last couple times I updated the program it completely wipes out all my settings. I use this app so chat notifications only go to my headphones in the middle of the night. When you wipe out my settings the notification sounds go back through the speaker and wake my wife up. The whole reason I paid for this app is so I don't disturb my wife when my buddies overseas chat me. Please stop wiping the settings!
