Unusual behavior from Hangouts

With Google poised to retire Voice at any time, I'm trying to adjust to using Hangouts instead, but SoundAbout audio routing doesn't seem to play nice with Hangouts. For me, incoming calls are always routed to a bluetooth headset (if present) but in Hangouts, for some reason they go to the phone's built-in mic every time, even though the Hangouts audio indicator says it's using bluetooth. For this reason it's not even possible to switch to the headset while the call is in progress. Disabling SoundAbout entirely is the only way I've found to correct this behavior. The device is a Galaxy Note 2 running Android 4.4.2.
