Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
Just downloaded latest version (2.6.5.0). My hope was that it would allow me to listen to radio in vehicle and get Waze or Google nav inputs over car speakers. I was thrilled to see it worked. I don't mind the missing first second of audio. BUT.... BT phone calls no longer work. I can see the bluetooth symbol on the phone app turn off as soon as the call is connected. If I press the bluetooth button on app - it all works, but that is too much fiddling while driving. Am I setting something wrong?
Media Audio: BT (Mono)(Dynamic)
Phone Audio: BT (mono)
If I turn Media Audio to "Let App Decide", I am assuming it is going to A2DP, and I can't hear (unless car audio set to BT input). But, then the BT phone calls work. It is as if the phone "sees" the Media channel and gives up.
The phone is a Galaxy 5
Thanks,

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
Set Phone Audio setting to "Let app decide". It should connect to Bluetooth phone as that is the default. I'm surprised it is not working with Phone Audio setting on "BT (mono)". I will have to look at that.
Also, download the latest Beta. The beta versions can be found here:

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
I couldn't find a beta version at this site, but I do have the latest version installed (2.6.5.3) I have restarted phone since installing. I changed the "Phone call audio" to "Let App Decide". I am getting the same behavior as originally noted above.
Desired behavior is to listen to the vehicle audio system, and have a phone call break into the audio, and to have WAZE announcements break into the audio.
In a default configuration (Soundabout OFF), the phone breaks into the audio, but WAZE announcments come out of the phone speaker.
With Soundabout ON, the WAZE announcements break into the audio, but the phone audio comes out of the ear speaker of the phone.
I get the same behavior in either of the following "media audio" settings: "Bluetooth (mono)(dynamic)" OR "Let App Decide"(with media audio behavior checking the "bluetooth (dynamic) auto usage" box).
If I set "media audio" to "speaker", then it behaves like it does when OFF. Phone behavior is as desired, but WAZE comes through the speaker.
I am using a Verizon Samsung Galexy 5 with Android 5.0.
If I watch the bluetooth icon on the phone page when a call is being connected, the bluetooth seems to turn off briefly and then comes back on. (When Soundabout is OFF.) With soundabout ON, and media set to either "Let App Decide" or "Bluetooth (mono)(dynamic)" then the BT icon goes off - but stays off.
It should be noted, that even when the phone call is coming out of the speaker, touching the BT icon on the phone will then successfully route audio through the vehicle audio system.
One final note. I tested both in vehicle, and then repeated with a BT headset - behavior is the same on both.

When you say that the Bluetooth icon goes off briefly, it sounds like something is going on there.
I will do more tests using Bluetooth (mono) (dynamic) and then receiving/making a Bluetooth phone call.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
I agree, there is something related to the icon blinking off going on. I've used the S5 with dozens of vehicles and headsets - it's worked find in both A2DP and handsfree mode, but never noticed that flash off before. It is very brief. It's acting like it knows the dynamic mode is active and then doesn't use the BT, like maybe the media usage of the handsfree channel doesn't clear, and is blocking. With media set to dynamic, the BT icon will turn off with a phone call and stay off (sound to speaker). With media set to speaker, the BT icon will flash off, but stay on, and sound goes to BT. Even without any media channels active, I can flip back and forth and get the behavior change. Very strange. Good luck - I hope you find something.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
I couldn't reproduce the issue exactly, but I do have a new version for you to try here:

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
Thanks,
I just downloaded 2.6.5.4 and tried it. Unfortunately it behaves the same. I'm surprised that it was difficult to reproduce. Here is what I am doing.
1] Download 2.6.5.4
2] Change Media Audio from "Let App Decide" to "Bluetooth (mono)(dynamic)"
3] Connect BT headset (either Vehicle, or Moto H670)
4] Make call
5] Phone screen shows

6] Bluetooth icon goes off when phone call connects. (And I hear hiss go away in headset.) Sound comes out of phone speaker.
7] Turn media setting to "Let app decide"
8] If phone call is made - BT goes to headset as expected.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
When I try that scenario, the phone connects to the phone call via Bluetooth.
Is the "Phone call audio" setting set to "Let app decide" or "Bluetooth (mono)"?

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
I only changed the media audio setting, so the phone call audio is still set to "Let App Decide". This is very odd, since the Galaxy 5 is very popular, as are moto headsets. I can't figure out what other variable is causing me a problem.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
Sometimes the timing is a little different between phones. I'm just trying to find a common denominator that works for all of them.
When using Bluetooth (mono)(dynamic), SoundAbout has audio focus waiting for anything else to take the audio away. When some other app takes audio, SoundAbout switches audio to Bluetooth.
If an incoming phone call comes in, the phone rings. SoundAbout detects the ring and shuts off the audio focus wait.
For an outgoing phone call, there is no trigger that SoundAbout can use to switch the audio focus wait so the outgoing call triggers the Bluetooth. When someone answers, Android actually disconnects the Bluetooth and tries to reconnect. On my phone this works, but apparently on the S5 there is an issue.
Somehow, I have to detect the outgoing call BEFORE the audio focus change switches the audio to Bluetooth.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
I have noticed that incoming calls are OK, I am only having an issue with outgoing calls. I am also having issue with voice searches (google now). The bluetooth seems to kick in, but exits right away taking the mic with it.

Re: Bluetooth shuts off on phone call
Yes, outgoing calls are tough because there is no warning event (phone ringing) to switch the audio early.
Are you using the SoundAbout Voice Search option with Google Now as the voice search activity?
