Phone Call to Bluetooth on a Custom ROM

I noticed in the SoundAbout description you mention that Android won't allow phone call audio to be redirected to A2DP bluetooth. Does this apply if you have a custom rom? Is this a restriction set by Android or is it just not technically possible? It seems like it should be possible to at least route the audio (not the mic) from a phone call to bluetooth.
