tts over bluetooth problems
I am using SoundAbout to try and route Google Maps navigation directions to my phone in my car. So I configured the TTS to go to the mono bluetooth.
I have two problems:
1. The bluetooth volume always seems to reset to 10 when playing a TTS. There is either a bug, or there needs to be a separate configuration option for BT volume when playing TTS ???
2. I hear 2 different TTS engines speaking. It seems the original?? may still be playing via the A2DP interface (which is also connected to an in-car BT GRom adapter for streaming music). They play over each other. The first seems to be at the correct volume and very clear, the second is the louder one - which also changes the volume indicator on the radio - VERY loud !!!
Are these bugs or is something configured wrong ? On am using ICS CM9 rom. Thanks.

Re: tts over bluetooth problems
1) The Bluetooth volume does get set high during TTS because TTS over Bluetooth mono is usually very low. I can look at that one.
2) This is a strange bug in Google navigation when it is using a TTS engine that doesn't send back stored audio file paths. It will play a default utterance while the third party TTS engine is playing the "real" TTS audio.
SoundAbout TTS has to transcribe the directions "as needeed" so it can switch the audio and put it back when done. Google Nav wants ALL the directions at the beginning which will cause your entire trip's directions to be spoken at the beginning. This is why there is a setting called "Max utterance per request".
I got rid of that double voice with the following method(remember to always back up files when changing):

Re: tts over bluetooth problems
The interesting thing, is that the "double voice" doesn't seem to happen when I use a mono-only test device I have. I think it may be related to the fact that in the car, I have both a mono device (in-car phone), and a A2DP device (media streaming) paired at the same time. I think this is where Google Nav or SoundAbout is getting confused.

Also, without the TTS bluetooth volume setting - the software is unusable. It is will scare the s**t out of you when driving and you'll crash the car...

Re: tts over bluetooth problems
I made some changes to keep Bluetooth (mono) connected when you remove SoundAbout from the running apps list. The volume issue should also be gone in the latest Beta.
Can you try the latest Beta in the list here:

Re: tts over bluetooth problems
I just released 2.5.6.1 to Production. It should be updated in Google play in a couple hours.
