Galaxy S3 Mic and Speaker Issue During calls

I have an S3 Galaxy with this famous mic and speaker (dead) issue during calls.

I purchased the Soundabout Pro app today, but it did not fix the issue. The speakers work and mic, as when I use skype all works. Its only when I use the phone for calls over the cell network.

Any suggestions?

If the speakers and mic are working reliably during a Skype call, then the issue most likely NOT that the phone "thinks" a headset is plugged in when it is not.

That is the most common cause of issues like this and the reason I first created SoundAbout.

When you use Skype, the phone is probably in "conference call" mode and uses the rear speaker and microphone (instead of ear speaker and built-in front microphone). If that works, but the cell phone call does not, then it could be that the ear speaker and possibly the front mic are dead.

One thing to try is change the SoundAbout "Media Audio" setting to "Earpiece". Play some music and see if it comes out of the ear speaker. This will tell us if the ear speaker works.

If it works, then it could be a cell tower issue between the phone and your provider's cell towers.

i tried your first option but, the audio won't play! It says "Unable to play during call"

Regards to your second option, i doubt very much its a cell tower issue. I have moved around to different places in the city and it does the same thing, and other persons next to me with the same phones don't have this issue..

What next?

i switched it over while the audio was actually playing through the speaker to the ear peace and its playing now through the ear peace....... problem still there tho

When you are in a phone call (try calling yourself from the house phone), check the status bar notification and look for the SoundAbout notification. What does the notification say?

Downloaded and installed it. Rebooted phone and nothing. Still the same.

Also tried to call my phone like you said during a call, but it just gets diverted to voice mail.

Your icon is no appearing in top left hand corner ansd it says: 'Phone speaker in use for media'

Are you trying to call your cell phone from the same cell phone? You have to call the cell phone from another phone, like your home phone or a friend's cell phone.

While in the phone call, does the status bar notification say "Built-in earpiece speaker in use for phone call"?

Do i just buy another phone? Is it a conflicting app???

It could be a hardware issue. Sometimes lint or something else gets stuck in the headset jack hole causing this issue.

I have it checked out by 2 Samsung centers. Its 100% software.

They opened the phone cleaned contacts etc.....

I have this same issue. This happens every time there is an update. I try not to update sound about because I know it will result in this issue. Unfortunately, the software updated on its own and now I have this sane problem. Please help fix this David. Thanks.

Im not sure. I usually have issues after any update whether it's sound about or android.

i cannot be certain as it updates automatically, but it could be possible

David...The silence is deafening!! Whats the deal with this app and the solution to our problem???

I am only getting small chucks of time to work on it.

Right now, I an trying to reconfigure the whole app so that I can deal with Android events within the context of each setting. Right now, other events can fire in Android that get capture and cause many different intents within SoundAbout to fire at one time.

If you try making a phone call using a wired headset (with microphone), or using a Bluetooth headset, does it work? I'm curious if the phone is blocking all phone call audio or just the internal speaker / microphone.

For me none of the above work. Not with blue tooth, wired or the handset.

However strangely enough, if i use Skype or viber on the same handset, both the speaker and mic work!
