Screen always active when calling
Hi,
first of all, thanks for the amazing app. I had (and still have) a broken audio jack stuck in and my Galaxy Nexus was useless. Thanks to SoundAbout it resurrected, and you sir are my hero.
I'm only having a slight problem: since I use SA, I can now make phonecall but my screen doesn't "go to sleep" when the phone detects my ear/cheer pressing it like it does on every smartphone, resulting in having me hanging up my calls, or opening menus, launching music, etc. while speaking, by the contact of my ear or cheek.
Is there a way in SoundAbout to prevent that, telling the phone to detect again my face like it used to?
Many thanks!

Re: Screen always active when calling
I will have to look at that. I think it was doing that because when the phone goes asleep, it sometimes shuts down "unused" services. If it shuts down the SoundAbout service, then your audio might not work as expected.
Re: Screen always active when calling
My audio works fine, I just meant that during a phonecall, the screen doesn't go black and therefore results in unwanted "touch" actions.
Thanks again for the quick reply and for the amazing work

I meant that SoundAbout keeps the screen alive so that the phone won't kill the SoundAbout service when the phone goes to sleep.

I experience this same problem. Would be nice to not have to press the power button every time I'm in a call yo prevent my face from inadvertently ending a call.

I've tried to help this in the latest Beta version.
If you want to receive Beta versions of SoundAbout from Google play, follow the instructions in this post:

Doesn't work for me, screen is still on during a call.

Re: Screen always active when calling
I did some tests. I installed an app named IntelliCover. With this app, I can have it vibrate every time the proximity sensor is used. I wave my hand in front of the phone and it vibrates once when over the sensor and once when leaving the sensor. When I made a phone call, the sensor no longer works. This is true with or without SoundAbout. Something else is disabling the sensor. It could be the ROM. I checked the ROM and kernel settings but couldn't find any setting that would do this. I did see problems where people couldn't hang up calls because the screen was black and for some reason they couldn't get it to come back on. Maybe this is why the proximity sensor is now disabled during a call?
Re: Screen always active when calling
Yeah it could be. I have tried stock ROMs along with CM10.1 and 10.2 and none of them seem to work. With the sensor test apps though the proximity sensor does seem to work. Not sure what would cause it.

Mine works too. That's why I tried IntellCover. I wanted to be notified via vibration when the sensor was triggered. It was working fine, until I get a phone call. During the call, no vibration while waving hand over sensor. After the call, it works fine again.

Hmm, makes no sense. Something else has to be going on.

Re: Screen always active when calling
Well I just tried an app called screen off lite that uses the proximity sensor to turn the screen of when you cover it. It has an option to only run when in a phone call and it works. When I call out and cover the sensor the screen turns off and then when I uncover it, it turns on. Something else in the background must be causing a problem.

Re: Screen always active when calling
I tried Smart Screen Off. I got the same results, so I looked at the permissions of the app. It is not request a Wake Lock. I guess that for some ROMs, the phone app is disabling the wake lock, not the proximity sensor itself.
