Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
Hello,
First off I want to thank you for creating this program as it is truly a great app to have and it works almost flawlessly. I have a couple concerns before I purchase the Pro version and I was wondering if you can address them or tell me if they are in the works to be fixed.
Here is my situation. I have a 2008 Acura MDX with the "Phone Only" BT and the Entertainment package with the AUX in. What I have been doing is plugging in the AUX jack so that I can listen to my music and then with the help of you app, using BT to manage my calls.
1 - The problem I have is that when the AUX jack has my cable plugged into it I can only make and receive calls using my steering wheel controls. If I try to answer my phone by using my phone or initiate a call from my phone directly the call goes into limbo. No BT and no Speaker. Any suggestions to work around this issue or will there be an update to address this issue in the near future?
2 - The only other issue that I noticed is that even when I do get a proper BT phone call working when I do have the AUX plugged in that I sometimes cannot hear or be heard intermittently during the call by the caller I am speaking too. This does not happen however when the AUX jack is unplugged. Any fix for this issue in the works?
Thanks very much for the time and any help you can provide with my situation.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
1) I think #1 is due to the phone app itself. I have the same issue on my HTC One, but didn't have it on my Galaxy Nexus.
2) This may be helped with the updates that I have been doing recently.
Try the most recent Beta version in the list here:

Thank you for the quick reply. Maybe the 4.3 update will take care of the phone app problem. Thanks.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
#1 has always happened. But it is even worse with the beta you suggested on the 26th. i could not get a phone call to work at all. I couldnt hear anything whether someone called me or I called them via the phone or the steering controls. I had to uninstall and put back the playstore version.
is the new beta you are recommending that same beta?

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
so I just tried the latest beta just now with the same results as the last beta I tried from the 26th.
when my aux is plugged in and I try to answer or make a call through the car controls I get no audio, not sure if they can here me.
when aux is plugged in and I make or answer a call using the phone it works through aux but does not switch to bt. (this is not the case through the current release, non beta. I get no phone audio through aux with current non beta release)
I did buy the pro version and I can mostly use the current release, just no answering through the phone, only car controls.
p.s. the media control to have volume maxed in the beta is nice so I dont have to constantly raise volume every time I plug it in.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
update. installed 4.3 today and still no change to bt or audio.
one quick note, if I start a call from the phone I get no audio but if I press the call/talk button on my steering wheel after initiating the call from my phone and give the transfer command it does switch to bt and I get audio.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
so the latest beta works better. as long as I check the new box you put in bluetooth behavior my bt works. I can hear and be heard when calls are answered or initiated through the vehicle controls.
the only thing left not working is initiating or answering a call from the phone itself. it never transfers to bluetooth at all, however during the call if I click the bt button on my steering wheel and say the "transfer" command it does transfer to bt and works.
note: when I do make a call from my phone, before initiating the "transfer" command, I can hear the other side through the phone speakers but they cannot hear me.
hope this info helps

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
The issue with initiating or answering a call from the phone itself seems to be an issue with the phone application on some phones. Samsung, HTC, Motorola,..etc like to put their own layers on top of Android. This includes the phone app that is used to answer or make phone calls. It appears that some of these phone apps are forcing the phone app "audio switch" button to "headset" if a headset/AUX is plugged into the phone. My new setting disables the headset audio output, but the phone app still detects that the headset is present and tries to use it.
Who ever designed this never took into account people plugging the phone into an AUX port for music, but still using the Bluetooth for phone calls.
For me, making an outgoing call does go to Bluetooth with the AUX plugged in. If I get an incoming call and click the ANSWER button on the phone, then the phone app tries to use the headset instead of the Bluetooth device. If I get an incoming call and press the Bluetooth button or the car's answer button then the phone app will correctly use Bluetooth for the phone call.
I've tried to use various API calls to get around this, but newer phone apps are stubborn and want to use the headset if plugged in.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
not a problem. I can live with it for now. if you ever do find a way around it let me know but in the mean time I am good with how it is working.
another note is that since the 4.3 update I no longer need to press the steering button and say the command "transfer" to switch to bt when I answer or initiate a call from my phone as the headset button is no longer greyed out and I can simply click the headset button. this is nice cause the other way wasnt so great.
last thing is now that I have the beta jnstalled will I still get the updated versions that you post to the play store automatically or do I need to go look for them manually?
thanks for all your help and time you put into making this app better for me and everyone else.

Re: Galaxy S4 AUX + BT Issues
OK, I put a newer Beta version out there. One thing to remember, is that on a lot of newer phones, the manufacturer phone application may behave differently. A lot of them will try to use the headset, if it is plugged in, regardless of SoundAbout trying to force otherwise. The only way around this is to answer the phone call with the Bluetooth headset "answer" button, or the car's "answer" button.
