Hi,

Running navigation apps on my Sony Xperia Compact on the Mono Bluetooth dynamic settings in my car, all works well except
There's a delay which means the first part on the navigation instructions are missing,, Google maps and Tomtom
Is the any way to set a delay to allow it to fully connect before transmitting?

Cheers

That is the nature of Bluetooth (mono) (dynamic).  It's a good setting for podcasts or TuneIn Radio, but when you use it for something that is giving quick directions (like navigation), it will miss a second or two because of the time it takes for Bluetooth to connect.  Since Android cannot just pause another application's audio, the only way to accomplish what you are asking is through Text-To-Speech.  If a navigation app requests directions to be processed from text to audio and uses TTS, then you can use the SoundAbout TTS wrapper.  For this to work, the navigation app needs to request every direction to be converted from text to audio.  It looks like Google Maps Navigation no longer use any other TTS engine and only use Google TTS now built into Google Maps.  If you are using any other TTS Engine, Google maps will ignore and process TTS inside Google Maps.  It's a shame, because that used to work well.

I'm not sure about Tom Tom, but I know CoPilot use to work extremely well with SoundAbout.

Great App. I had the same issue with a mono dynamic setting. Keeping the non dynamic is not feasable for it drains the battery of the ear piece (as it is always on; one hears a slight hiss also). But the dynamic loses the first part of the navigation messge due to Bluetooth.

So the question I have is the following. If I buy an A2DP capable headset, will it be normally off/standby to save the ear piece battery and when my navigation app "talks" will I hear the message immediatly from the start? Many thanks !!

Yes, a Bluetooth A2DP headset will work like that. It is the default audio output when it is connected.

I'm not sure how the battery lasts when using the Bluetooth A2DP headset. You will hear notifications and all other sounds (except phone calls), so it may drain the battery somewhat faster.

Give the latest Beta a shot. You can download it here:

Hi, I downloaded. Should it now work OK with a mono headset? There are a lot of boxes that are already ticked and with text is greyed out and I cannot change the ticks. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

I am not sure what you mean by "should it work now with a mono headset".

There is no way to get by the lag of missing directions because Bluetooth connection takes a couple seconds.

The only way to over come that is to control the source of directions, in the Navigation app. We don't have control of the navigation app, so that is impossible. If the navigation app gave a warning that it was about to send instructions and then waited until we sent a signal that we were ready, then it would work great!

If the Navigation app uses Text To Speech for all of its directions, then that gives us more control. We can accept the directions in text, wait until the Bluetooth is switched, then allow the text to be transcribed into audio over Bluetooth.

"There are a lot of boxes that are already ticked and with text is greyed out and I cannot change the ticks. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?"

I'm guessing you are running the non-Pro version of SoundAbout?

If you want to run a free trial of the full version for a couple days, do this:

1) Go into phone settings / apps / scroll to the SoundAbout and click on it.
2) Click on Clear Cache, Clear Data, Force Stop, then un-install.
3) Install the latest version of SoundAbout.

You can find the latest version in here:

I use Copilot with SoundAbout TTS. Copilot works great because it requests all the directions via Text To Speech.

That thread is here:
