Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Hi,
I have upgraded my Samsung s3 to 4.1.2 around 3-4 months backs. Since then my phone was working fine but suddenly from 15 days ago i am facing one serious issue while trying to receive or make calls through my phone earpiece.
Sometimes while i try to make call i didn't hear anything on my phone earpiece but the call gets connected and the other person clearly hears my voice. However when i switch to speaker then i am able to hear everything and when i switch back to earpiece again no voice.
Also no problem has been observed while making calls on my wired earphone.
So, looking into this forum i found that the problem is not with my phone hardware but software routing issue and then yesterday i downloaded and installed SoundAbout licensed version @175 INR from Google play store.
Although i have seen lot of improvement in terms of the making or receiving phone calls but still there are moments when i face the same issue.
Please help me and let me know if SoundAbout is meant for such purpose and if yes if i am missing on some settings.
By the way, i am using the default setting that comes by default with SoundAbout where in "phone call audio" option is set to "Let the app decide".
Looking for the positive reply asap.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
SoundAbout can help. The issue may be that you have a loose connection. In that case SoundAbout will help "reset" the connection. If the loose connection keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, then the earpiece will keep going on and off.
For version 2.5.0 of Soundabout, Did you try:
1) Clicking on the "Wired Headset behavior...." setting.
2) Un-checking the "Wired Headset detection" setting.
3) Reboot the phone.

Hi
Again today i have faced the same issue even after keeping the same settings u suggested. So please suggest how to go about this. By the way is it the problem with the android version i have upgraded to or some kind of hardware issue?
Please help as this is very frustating.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
It could be a hardware issue with the earpiece speaker. It may just have a loose connection that is causing the earpiece to malfunction. One thing I do to test is set the SoundAbout media audio setting to "Earpiece" and turn up the volume while playing music. See if you can hear it through the earpiece.
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I have tried that, first of all setting media audio in soundabout gives a warning that the media may or may not play through earpiece and when i try to play any music through music player then it cannot be played and gives message "unable to play during call"

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
You phone has a media profile that won't allow me to force audio to the earpiece or Bluetooth mono. To do either I have to trick the phone into thinking it is in a phone call because the earpiece and Bluetooth mono are only supposed to be used during a phone call.
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
What other options i have? Shall i take it to service center?

Upon initial and limited testing, it does not appear that the beta version resolved my earpiece issue.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
No, the problem isn't limited to just during a phone call. My ear speaker will randomly quit working, even when the phone is just laying on a desk. The only way to get it to work again is to set SoundAbout to route media sound to the ear speaker and then play something w/ the media player. It will work for a while (at most an hour or so) and then go out again. I've tried all of the headset configurations within SoundAbout and nothing seems to fix this problem. I'll try other ideas you have if you think they will help.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Normally, the ear speaker is only used during a phone call. SoundAbout has to tell the phone it is in a phone call to get media to play through the ear speaker.
Are you playing media through the ear speaker to test or are you doing it normally for another reason?

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I do this solely to "reactivate" my ear speaker.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Does the ear speaker normally go out during a phone call?
Is this happening just after the last release?
Is this happening just after the last release?
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
No, assuming my phone calls aren't lengthy and the ear speaker has just been "reactivated" (using the process described above), the ear speaker will usually stay on throughout a call. Then sometime thereafter it will stop working. I have recently had one situation on a lengthy call that the ear speaker stopped working in the middle of the call.
My issue did not start as a result of SoundAbout. Rather, I'm trying to resolve my issue with SoundAbout. Unfortunately, while SoundAbout temporarily restores my ear speaker, it doesn't seem to "stick", regardless of the setting. I'm trying to figure out why...i.e. if it is a software or hardware issue.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
OK, thanks. There is another piece of code that I took out. This code doesn't allow my service to be killed by Android. I took it out because Android 4.3 forces a notification to constantly stay in the status bar for any app that does this. I got some complaints.
I'll put it back and we'll see if that helps.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I have a sprint s3. soundabout has worked for me for the past 6 months. I think in the latest update, it messed up my ear piece. I thought it was my phone, had it replaced, and same issue. As soon as I uninstall soundabout, phone works great. ONLY occurs on outgoing calls, but when i *2 sprint, it works fine. Incoming calls I can hear clearly. Hope this info helps find the problem.

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I am about to release 2.5.4.5. Hopefully that will clear this up.
