OK. Great. 2.5.4.6 solves an issue with changing the SoundAbout service setting.
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Unsure as to if you could please advise, I have an S3 that although the speaker and mic work on everything else, they will not work during a phone call, I have done the self test of the earpiece by dialling *#0*# and the earpiece seems top be working fine, I have also used voice search so the mic works fine too so am assuming it to not be a hardware issue?
Upon reading several forums it suggested soundabout to be a potential fix, especially given the fact that my hardware seems to be working, however upon installing and then restarting the phone, it still uses the old defaults, for example for testing purposes I have set soundabout to not detect earphones and my S3 still does as per the default settings, I have set media to speaker, but this still switches to earphones when plugged in ignoring the soundabout settings completely, therefore I am assuming that it also is not using soundabout as default for phone calls, so as such there's still no mic or sound during calls, I have attempted several settings and restarting between changes and no difference, I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling soundabout with no luck.
I am using the galaxy S3 stock android 4.1.2 and the latest soundabout (downloaded from google play today), I am only using the trial for the time being, but will gladly upgrade to the full version if it can sort my issue.
Any ideas please or anything that I may be missing?
EDIT: Forgot to say I have tested both with and without wired earphones and neither work during a call
EDIT 2: tried removing / reinstalling again and reinstalling stock rom from kies and still no luck, also tried setting to speaker but that didn't work either, got to be something I've done wrong or a deeper fault in my phone I think but it's out of warranty so hope I can get it sorted

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I've uploaded a newer version of SoundAbout (2.5.5.. It may take a while for Google Play to make it available, but you can find it sooner in the list here:
https://soundabout.forumotion.com/f8-download-beta-versions.
Try the same thing with this new version.
Go into settings, Manage apps, find SoundAbout, clear cache, clear data, force stop, un-install. Then re-install the new version. Go into the app, click on "Wired Headset behavior", and then un-check the "Wired Headset detection" setting. Restart the phone.
You could have an issue with the base-band version on your phone. Have you ever tried rooting or various ROMS?

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Thanks, I will download the new version and try it out, I actually bought the phone used, and when I got it it was rooted with CWM and running cyanogen mod 10.1, I didn't like the mod and managed to find the UK stock rom online (BTU), and installed that, but just in case there was anything wrong with that I then removed it and replaced it direct from Samsung via kies, so am sure it's the right base-band version for the phone (as sure as I can be), I will try the new updated version shortly and post back the result.SoundAbout wrote:I've uploaded a newer version of SoundAbout (2.5.5.. Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
The baseband is s separate flash install than a ROM. It may have the baseband from when the CM ROM was put on.
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
I'm guessing the problem to be with my phone then as the new version didn't work properly either, my baseband version is I9300XXEMG4, and under about device > status it shows as normal not modified so it's looking to be unrooted properly or is there another way to tell that you know of please? if not it just looks like I have an expensive mini-tabletSoundAbout wrote:The baseband is s separate flash install than a ROM. What country are you located? What cell phone provider do you use?

There is an app that will tell you if the radio is a good match:

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Thanks, looks like my firmware that is the problem somewhere, GetRIL is reading as RIL unknown, it's reading my baseband version, but then says recommended unknown (probably because it cannot identify the RIL), then it has a baseband list (dropdown), but the next bit says no permission as it needs root and superuser access, I will look into it more tomorrow and maybe root it again so I can make changes I guess as thius does look to be the problem, just need to find the right solution, my phone was unlocked when I bought it (not sure if this was flashed to be so or was manufacturer unlocked), I am from the UK and using a GiffGaff sim (which uses the O2 network)SoundAbout wrote:There is an app that will tell you if the radio is a good match:

Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
You should be able to find a ROM that will work over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/
Re: Samsung Galaxy s3 earpiece issue
Thanks, that was where I got the guide to unroot and install stock from originally, although I have followed another from there today and even though my binary and status were reading as original in download mode there were previously around 14 cutom binary downloads, therefore to ensure that nothing was getting mixed up, I installed triangle away re-rooted using cf to clear the binary queue, then reinstalled the stock recovery just to make sure and reinstalled the stock rom to unroot, and the custom binary download has remained at "No" so am sure now that it is only the stock samsung UK unlocked rom on there, I then attempted to re-install the soundabout mod and unfortunately it's still doing the same, GetRIL is still not recognising the RIL, although this is the most recent genuine UK version as announced from Samsung, so can only guess that there may be another reason.SoundAbout wrote:You should be able to find a ROM that will work over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/
Only other thing to try is according to kies, when I put in my model number and serial number (with the phone unplugged), it comes up with the original firmware which was locked to T-Mobile from the looks of the CSC code, do you think that reverting to a network locked (T-Mobile) rom could fix the sound issue?
